The procedure involved in inserting facial implants is varied depending on the area being treated, but it is generally quite simple.
Temple implants are a relatively new form of facial implants. They are designed to fill in the temporal hollow that becomes more prominent as people age. This area is typically treated with injectable fillers to restore volume.
Jaw implants can be placed through an incision inside the mouth as well and may require an incision where the cheek and gums meet.
The incisions are made during a procedure that can involve intravenous sedation or general anesthesia in order to ensure that you are comfortable. Incisions are placed in areas that will hide them well after healing.
Absorbable sutures are used to close the incisions. The improvements are visible immediately after the procedure but it will take some time for the final results to be clear as the body heals.
With cheek implants, the implant is inserted through incisions in the mouth. Incisions may alternatively be made near the hairline or the eyelids to provide more accurate access.
Chin implants can be inserted through an incision inside the mouth, at the crease where your lower lip and gums meet.
