CO2 FRACTIONAL LASER RESURFACING
The market for non-invasive and minimally invasive cosmetic techniques continues to rise. There will always be endless demands to preserve or restore one’s youthful appearance. The difference nowadays is that the available options have continued to evolve, and the choices people have are quickly growing in number. One new option is CO2 fractional laser resurfacing.
Laser technology is an area that has gained steam quickly and has become the go-to preference for rejuvenating skin treatments. Laser resurfacing can reach depths ten times greater than that of chemical peels or microdermabrasion treatments while only requiring a fraction of the downtime.
CO2 fractional laser resurfacing, offered by board-certified cosmetic surgeon Dr. Babak Moein, is a non-surgical approach for correcting aged and discolored skin. The treatment is designed to diminish the appearance of wrinkles, pores, acne, scars, discoloration, and other imperfections through a series of minimally invasive treatments.
Fractional laser techniques treat skin in small areas, ablating tiny zones along a set pattern and leaving sections of untouched skin around them that assist in the skin’s regeneration process. This version of resurfacing has grown in popularity because it requires much less downtime while still managing to produce great results.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) laser resurfacing is the most powerful laser for resurfacing and is often incorporated to vaporize the skin one layer at a time. The technology was developed decades ago, but we lacked the ability to control its power for cosmetic purposes.
The CO2 laser helps to expedite the recovery process by half the time. This specific form of laser resurfacing is great for treating all of the conditions mentioned above while also proving effective in eliminating certain skin tumors and other precancerous growths that develop along the surface.
In addition to the skin of the face, CO2 laser treatments are also good for the neck and the back of the hands. As your body creates its own collagen to fill lines and improve texture, that same process helps to lessen the appearance of stretch marks and keloid scars.
The CO2 fractional laser requires anesthesia to eliminate any discomfort associated with the procedure. In most cases, a topical numbing cream or a chilling spray is enough to manage the sting of the laser. Other times, anesthesia is delivered intravenously. This treatment is done on an outpatient basis.
The total time of the procedure is mere minutes, and patients are left with a mild sunburn feeling for about three days. After a session, it’s best to avoid the sun for at least a week. Sessions can be spaced out in six-month intervals, depending on the condition of the skin. Over time and with numerous sessions, the skin becomes tighter, the wrinkles disappear, and patients are left with a younger, healthier-looking appearance.
To treat deeper folds within the face, patients will likely have to turn to dermal fillers, which can also be good for adding volume.
