UPPER EYELID SURGERY

As one age, drooping upper eyelid skin can get in the way of one’s line of sight, making it harder to see clearly. Fat deposits can make the middles and inner corners of the upper lids look puffy, creating a tired look. Sagging muscles can add to this look, making one appear older. To correct these issues, you may need an upper lid blepharoplasty. Upper eyelid surgery or upper blepharoplasty is a popular option available at Moein Surgical Arts to revitalize your look. Remove excess tissue in the upper eyelids or achieve the natural double crease you've always wanted; call to schedule your consultation.

The Procedure

The upper lid blepharoplasty procedure can be used to trim away excess drooping skin, tighten and alter muscles and membranes, and remove uneven deposits of fatty tissue. This surgery can require around one to three hours. If a patient is getting a combination of upper lid and lower lid blepharoplasty, these can be done during the same procedure and will typically begin with the upper set of eyelids.

To begin upper lid surgery, IV sedation or general anesthesia will be administered. A small incision will then be created in the natural crease of each of the patient’s upper eyelids. The tissues of the area will be recontoured. Finally, the incision will be sealed with sutures, surgical tape, or skin adhesives.

Recovery of Upper Eyelid Surgery

After the procedure, a friend or family member will drive you home. This person should also stay over through the night to ensure that you’re taken care of. Your upper lid blepharoplasty recovery will involve rest and limited activity for around seven to ten days. After this, you should be able to resume your everyday schedule. Avoid your normal exercise routine until given permission by your cosmetic surgeon.

Dry eyes are a common side effect of blepharoplasty; this issue can be soothed with the use of lubricating eye ointment. While you’re healing, stay away from extended periods of television watching, computer use, and reading since these can dry out the eyes. Sunglasses should also be used to protect the eyes from wind and sun.

A mild degree of bruising and swelling may take place for the first one to two weeks following the procedure. Cold compresses can aid with the reduction of these issues. In three days to a week after the upper lid surgery, you’ll be able to come back in to get stitches removed.

The rejuvenating effects of your upper lid blepharoplasty can stay fresh for a full five to seven years, so contact us today and arrange an appointment with Dr. Moein.
